Story Details

Husky Bao stood proudly in the yard, his eyes sparkling. “I wish I could become the leader of all dogs!” he declared.

But his friend Chunky Pup glanced around and said, “To be a leader, others need to trust you first.” Bao wanted to prove himself.

He ran to the grassy hill, where a few small pups were struggling to reach a balloon stuck on a high branch. “I got this!” Bao said as he jumped up and grabbed the branch.

Crack! The branch snapped, and the balloon floated away. The little pups looked disappointed.

Seeing this, Chunky Pup said gently, “A leader isn’t just strong. A leader thinks about others’ needs.”

Bao froze. He had only thought about being admired, not about helping.

That afternoon, chaos broke out in the village: a cart had tipped over, and bags of food were rolling into the stream! “Help!” voices cried.

This was Bao’s chance—but it was also dangerous. The water was fast, and the rocks were slippery. Bao took a deep breath.

“Let’s do it together!” he said. He stood at the bank giving directions. Small dogs pulled the rope. Bigger dogs held the bag. Chunky Pup jumped down to steady it.

Bao braced himself, paws trembling but eyes determined. “Pull it up!” he shouted.

With one big effort, everyone tugged together. Whoosh! The bag of food was lifted safely onto the shore. The dogs sighed in relief.

One little pup grabbed Bao’s paw and said, “Thank you! We couldn’t have done it without you.”

Bao blushed, ears drooping shyly, but warmth filled his chest.

“So… being a leader isn’t about standing above others. It’s about helping everyone stay safe and happy,” he thought.

That night, all the dogs gathered around him. “Leader Bao!” they cheered.

Bao grinned wide. “I don’t want to rule anyone,” he said. “I just want to be the best friend to every dog!”
