Story Details

Barnaby the bear, usually happy with his shiny bottle cap collection, stomped his big paw. His favorite cap, a shimmering blue one, was gone! He had placed it right next to his mossy bed. Now, only a bare spot remained. A tiny whimper escaped his furry lips. He needed that cap!

First, Barnaby lumbered to the chattering squirrels. "My blue cap! My shimmering blue cap!" he roared, startling them so much they dropped their acorns. One squirrel, Squeaky, pointed a twitching nose towards the tall oak. "Heard a *whoosh*! See a sparkle! Up high!"

Barnaby pushed through prickly bushes, his heart thumping like a drum. Next, Barnaby crashed into a family of busy beavers. "My blue cap! My shimmering blue cap!" he bellowed, making their dam nearly burst. Barry Beaver, munching on a twig, twitched his whiskers. "Saw a flash! Heard a *flap*! Towards the sparkling stream!"

Barnaby splashed through the cold stream, his fur dripping wet. Then, Barnaby tumbled into a cozy rabbit burrow, startling a whole family. "My blue cap! My shimmering blue cap!" he wailed, making the little bunnies hop with fright. Rosie Rabbit, her nose wiggling, sniffed the air. "Felt a breeze! Heard a *chirp*! Near the whispering reeds!"

Barnaby squeezed out of the burrow, his tummy rumbling. Finally, near the whispering reeds, Barnaby saw it! Perched high in a tiny nest, sparkling like a tiny jewel, sat his shimmering blue cap. A little bird, no bigger than his thumb, chirped happily, fluffing its feathers around the shiny treasure.

Barnaby watched, a soft smile spreading across his big, furry face. His cap had found a new, unexpected, and very sweet home.
