Story Details

Panda stands in the small classroom holding a picture book. “Today,” Panda says, “we will learn how to answer: What was he doing when the bell rang?” The student nods eagerly.

Panda shows the first picture—a boy reading. “When the bell rang… he was reading a book,” Panda explains. The student repeats softly, “He was reading a book.”

Panda flips to the next page showing a boy sleeping on a sofa. “When the bell rang… he was sleeping.” The student giggles. “He looks very sleepy!”

Panda shows a picture of a boy talking on the phone in the cafeteria. “When the bell rang… he was talking on his cell phone.” The student copies: “He was talking on his cell phone.”

Next, Panda shows a girl writing math on the board. “When the bell rang… she was doing her homework.” The student nods seriously.

Panda shows a picture of a boy running toward school. “When the bell rang… he was running to school.” The student smiles. “He’s late!”

Then Panda lifts a picture of a girl watering a plant. “When the bell rang… she was watering the plant.” The student imagines the plant growing.

Panda places all six pictures on the board. “Now,” Panda says, “can you tell me each sentence yourself?” The student nods confidently.

The student points to each picture one by one: “He was reading. He was sleeping. He was talking on his cell phone.” “She was doing homework. He was running. She was watering the plant.” Panda claps happily.

“You learned the past continuous today!” Panda says proudly. The student smiles. “Thank you, Teacher Panda!” Panda bows with joy.
