Hello! This is Starling the little Sparrow. Starling loves to fly high, but today she wants to fly higher than the clouds—all the way to Space!
Starling blasts off! First, she sees the Sun. The Sun is a giant, hot star that gives light and warmth to all the planets. It is the center of our home!
Starling looks around. Eight big Planets orbit (move around) the Sun. They are all different sizes and colors, like a cosmic family!
The first planet is Mercury, the smallest and closest to the Sun. It is very hot! Next is Venus, which is also very hot and cloudy.
The third planet is Earth—that’s where Starling lives! Earth is the perfect place for life, with blue Water and green Land.
Next is Mars. Mars is often called the Red Planet because of its reddish-brown dust. Scientists think people might visit Mars one day!
Starling flies past the biggest planet! This is Jupiter, the Giant. Jupiter is so big, you could fit all the other planets inside it! It has a big red spot.
Next is the beautiful Saturn! Saturn is known for its amazing, huge Rings made of ice and rock pieces.
Starling flies farther out to the icy giants. Uranus is light blue and tilted. Neptune is dark blue and very cold, being the farthest away.
Starling flies back closer to Earth. She sees the Moon! The Moon is Earth’s friend and travels around Earth. It is rocky and bright in the night sky.
In space, there is no air, and things float! Starling is floating easily near her rocket. Everything is quiet and moves gently.
Starling flew to eight planets and saw the Sun! She learned how big and amazing the Solar System is. Now, it's time to fly back home to Earth!
