Story Details

Hello! This is Sprout, a very curious little plant seedling. Sprout is ready to grow, but he needs to learn how his actions change things!

Sprout is standing in a pot. He asks a big question: "What will happen if I do something?" This is called Cause and Effect!

One day, Sprout decides not to drink any water. This is the Cause. After a while, his leaves start to droop and look dry. This is the Effect.

Sprout learns quickly! He drinks a lot of clean water the next day. This is the Cause. His leaves stand up tall and bright green again! This is the good Effect.

Sprout moves his pot to the hottest spot in the garden, right under the strong sun! This is the Cause. The strong sun is too hot, and his leaves get a little brown at the edges. This is the Effect.

Sprout moves his pot to a shady spot during the hottest part of the day. This is the Cause. His leaves cool down and stay perfectly green. This is the good Effect.

Sprout is next to a bird's nest. Sprout shouts loudly! This is the Cause. The little bird gets scared and flies away quickly. This is the Effect.

Sprout whispers a soft, gentle greeting instead. This is the Cause. The little bird comes back and sings a sweet song to Sprout! This is the good Effect.

Sprout finds a big, juicy worm! He tries to keep the worm all to himself. This is the Cause. Another worm friend feels sad and lonely because Sprout wouldn't share. This is the Effect.

Sprout breaks the worm in half and shares it with his friend! This is the Cause. Now both worms are happy and full! This is the good Effect. Sharing makes everyone smile.

Everything we do (the Cause or the action) creates something else (the Effect or the reaction). Thinking before we act helps us choose good effects!

Sprout learned that he can choose his actions to create kind, happy, and healthy effects for himself and for his friends! You can too!
