Leo hummed a wobbly tune. His basement was dusty, just like his ideas. He tinkered with wires, trying to make his newest invention whir.

It was a contraption meant to sort socks, but it just sat there, quiet as a mouse. Leo sighed. His friend, a round window in the stone wall, seemed to wink.

It was an old ship's window he found. When Leo got stuck, he always looked through it.

First, a big cloud floated by. It looked like a fluffy sheep. Then, it changed into a long, skinny snake. Leo watched the cloud's shape transform.

A tiny light sparked in his mind! His sock-sorter didn't need to be one big machine.

It could be small parts that changed, just like the cloud! He picked up his tools, his eyes gleaming.

made little moving arms for his machine. Still, the machine only grumbled.

Next, a busy squirrel zipped past the window. It gathered nuts, one by one. It put them in a pile, then another.

The squirrel worked so fast! Leo clapped his hands. He needed his machine to be quick, like the squirrel! And it needed many piles for all the socks.

He added more trays. He made the little arms swish faster. The machine gave a little twitch, then went silent again.

Then, a bright leaf fluttered down. It danced in the air, spinning and twirling. It didn't just fall straight down. It moved with grace.

Leo gasped! His machine was too stiff! It needed to move with a gentle flow. He changed the gears. He made the parts slide with soft bumps, not hard jerks.

He flipped the switch. The machine began to whir, a happy, gentle hum. It sorted socks, red with red, blue with blue! Leo cheered.

His window, his wise old window, had helped him again!
