Leo squinted at his broken contraption. Sparks flew. Smoke puffed. His basement workshop smelled of burnt wires. He needed a big idea.
He saw his old porthole window. It was set in the cold stone wall. He always cleaned this window. Its round glass showed a tiny bit of the world.
He rubbed the window with his sleeve. A fat squirrel scampered by. The squirrel held a nut. It dug a hole. Then it covered the nut.
Aha! Leo grabbed his tools. He fitted a small scoop onto his machine. It needed to gather tiny parts. He tried it. The scoop gathered. But it dropped some parts.
Leo sighed. He cleaned the window again. A fluffy cloud drifted slowly. It changed shape. It stretched. It twisted.
Aha! Leo changed his scoop. He added a flexible edge. It would grab parts better.
He tried it. The scoop worked well. But it moved too slow.
Leo frowned. He wiped the glass one more time. A bright red leaf danced in the wind. It spun and twirled. It zipped fast.
Aha! Leo made his machine spin. He added a whirring gear. It needed to move with speed. He tried it. The scoop spun.
It gathered all the parts. His machine worked!
Leo cheered. His lonely basement filled with happy noise.
