The Silent Spot
Farmer McGregor can't grow anything in a strange, silent spot. Only when little Timmy discovers the spot "eats sound" and starts reading poems, does something magical begin to grow. This heartwarming story celebrates the power of words and imagination.
Old Farmer McGregor stomped his boot. Nothing grew in that circle. Not one blade of grass!
He dumped rich, dark soil. He watered it. He even sang to it! Still, bare dirt.
He scratched his head. He called a sound man. The man brought big, black machines.
Beep-boop-whirrr went the machines. “It eats sound!” cried the man. “This dirt… it swallows noise!”
Little Timmy heard the news. He loved quiet. He loved poems. He tiptoed to the circle.
He opened his favorite book. He read, softly at first. “The sun shines bright and warm!” he whispered.
The dirt stayed still. He read louder. “A tiny bird takes flight!” His voice bounced, then vanished.
No echo! It was perfectly silent. Timmy felt happy. He read a long, loud poem. His voice filled the air.
It vibrated. Suddenly, a brave green sprout pushed up! Timmy gasped.
Every day, Timmy went there. He read silly poems. He read sad poems. He read loud poems.
He read with all his might. His words buzzed into the dirt. More sprouts popped up! Faster and faster! Twigs reached for the sky.
Green leaves unfurled. A strong, tall apple tree grew. Its branches were heavy with red, juicy apples.
Farmer McGregor stared. “It grew!” he boomed. Timmy smiled. The silent spot just needed happy, loud words to wake up.
