Story Details

Hello! This is Leo. Today, Leo is watching a tiny drop of water sitting on a green leaf. He wonders: "Where did this drop come from, and where will it go?" Today, he is following a drop named "Drip" to learn about the Water Cycle.

Drip’s journey begins in the vast blue Ocean. The sun shines down and warms the water. As Drip gets hotter and hotter, he turns from a liquid into an invisible gas. This part of the journey is called Evaporation. Drip is now floating high into the sky!

As Drip rises higher, the air becomes colder. Being a gas is fun, but Drip starts to cool down and turns back into a tiny liquid droplet. He joins billions of other droplets to form a fluffy white Cloud. This change is called Condensation.

The cloud gets bigger and heavier as more water drops join in. Soon, the cloud turns dark gray. Drip and his friends are now too heavy to stay in the air. They fall from the sky as Precipitation. Depending on the temperature, Drip might be rain, snow, or even hail!

Drip lands on top of a tall, snowy mountain. Because it is so cold, he freezes into a beautiful snowflake. He stays there for a while as part of a Glacier. This is like a "frozen storage" where water can stay for hundreds of years.

Spring arrives, and the sun melts the snow. Drip turns back into a liquid and starts to slide down the mountain. This movement of water over the land is called Surface Runoff. Drip joins a tiny, bubbling stream that splashes over rocks.

As Drip travels, he meets many plants. Some water is sucked up by the roots of a giant tree. The tree uses the water to stay healthy, and then releases it back into the air through its leaves. This "plant sweat" is called Transpiration.

Drip continues his journey into a wide, slow-moving River. He sees fish swimming past and boats floating on the surface. Rivers are like the veins of the Earth, carrying fresh water across the land to the people and animals who need it.

Drip finds himself flowing into a quiet Lake. Here, the water is still. Drip might stay here for a long time, providing a home for frogs and lily pads, until the wind or the current pushes him back toward the river.

Some of Drip's friends soak deep into the ground. They fill the spaces between rocks and soil, becoming Groundwater. This hidden water forms giant underground lakes called aquifers. People often dig wells to find this clean, cold water.

Finally, the river reaches the end of its path and flows into the salty Ocean. Drip has returned to exactly where he started! He has traveled across the sky, over mountains, and through the earth to finish his giant circle.

The Water Cycle is a Never-Ending Loop. The water we drink today is the same water that the dinosaurs drank millions of years ago! It is always moving, changing shape, and keeping our planet alive. Drip waits for the sun to shine again so he can start his next trip.

Leo’s watery adventure is finished. He looks at the glass of water in his hand and realizes every drop has a story to tell. He promises to protect the water and keep it clean for everyone. If you were a water drop, would you rather be a fluffy cloud or a rushing river?
