Story Details

Hello! This is Mai. Today, she found a tiny, glowing egg in a flower pot. Crack! Out popped a dragon no bigger than a strawberry. He has golden scales and tiny purple wings. Mai named him Sparky.

First, Mai puts Sparky in her Pocket. She learns about Warmth. Her pocket is soft and cozy. Sparky snuggles down and makes a tiny sound like a purring kitten. Purr, purr!

Next, it is time for breakfast. Leo learns about Feeding. Sparky doesn't eat rice; he eats tiny sparks of light! Mai holds a small mirror to catch a sunbeam, and Sparky gobbles it up. Gulp!

Now, Mai goes to the library. She learns about Silence. Sparky has to stay very quiet. He peeks his head out of her pocket and looks at the big books. He likes the pictures of tall mountains and blue skies.

Suddenly, Sparky gets a Hiccup. He learns about Fire. Each time he hiccups, a tiny puff of smoke comes out! Hic-puff! Mai uses her handkerchief to fan the smoke away so nobody sees.

Next, they go to the garden. Mai learns about Discovery. Sparky jumps out and hides behind a red tulip. He is so small that a ladybug thinks he is a new kind of flower. They become friends!

Now, it starts to get Windy. Mai learns about Protection. The wind is too strong for tiny Sparky. Mai cups her hands around him to keep him safe. "Don't worry, Sparky. I've got you," she whispers.

Suddenly, Sparky wants to fly. He learns about Effort. He flaps his tiny purple wings very fast. Flap, flap, flap! He flies around Mai's head like a golden bee. Mai claps her nhà happily.

Next, Mai finds a small Thimble. She learns about Utility. She fills the thimble with water for Sparky to drink. It is a perfect tiny cup for a tiny dragon. Sparky drinks and wiggles his tail.

Now, it is evening. Sparky is getting Sleepy. Mai learns about Bedtime. She makes a little bed for him inside a matchbox with a piece of soft cotton. Sparky curls up into a golden ball.

The moon is shining bright. Mai learns about Dreams. She wonders if Sparky dreams of flying over big volcanoes or sleeping on a pile of gold coins. She kisses the top of his tiny head.

Finally, Mai realized that Big Friendships come in Small Packages. She doesn't need a giant dragon to have a giant adventure. Sparky makes every day feel like magic.

Mai’s dragon adventure is finished for today. She closes her eyes and sleeps. She realized that Everyone needs a friend to look after them. If you had a pocket dragon, would he be golden like Sparky or blue like the ocean?
