Story Details

Hello! This is Leo. Today, it is time for a bath. He has a lot of bubbles and a small yellow toy submarine.

Suddenly, Leo hears a Whirr-whirr-gurgle! The toy grows big, and Leo hops inside. It is time for a Deep Sea Mission!

First, Leo closes the hatch. He learns about Air. Inside the submarine, it is dry and cozy. He looks through the round glass window and sees a world of blue water and white soap bubbles that look like floating pearls.

Next, Leo pushes a blue button. He learns about Diving. The submarine goes down, down, down to the bottom of the tub. He sees his lost toy dinosaur resting near a bar of soap. "I found you!" says Leo.

Now, Leo turns on the Searchlight. He learns about Visibility. The water is a bit cloudy from the bubble bath, but his bright light cuts through the foam. He sees a school of tiny rubber duckies swimming past.

Suddenly, Leo encounters a Giant Octopus. He learns about Bravery. The octopus is actually his pink washcloth! It waves its many arms in the water. Leo laughs and realizes there is nothing to be afraid of.

Next, Leo finds a Sunken Treasure. He learns about Discovery. It is a shiny gold coin (his plastic play money). He uses the submarine's robot arm to pick it up. "This is a great prize!" he thinks.

Now, the submarine travels through the Bubble Tunnel. Leo learns about Speed. He goes Vroom! through the thick white foam. It feels like driving through a soft, snowy mountain underwater.

Suddenly, the water starts to swirl. Leo learns about Whirlpools. The drain is open! Leo uses his steering wheel to stay safe and move away from the spinning water. He is a very good captain.

Next, Leo sees a Mechanical Whale. He learns about Size. It is his dad’s big shaving cream bottle floating on the surface. From below, it looks like a giant silver whale sleeping in the sun.

Now, Leo’s mom says, "Time to come out, Leo!" Leo learns about Listening. He knows the adventure must end. He pushes the red button to float back up to the surface. Pop! The submarine is small again.

Leo steps out of the tub and wraps himself in a warm towel. He learns about Warmth. He feels fuzzy and clean. He dries his ears and puts on his cozy blue pajamas.

Finally, Leo puts his yellow submarine on the shelf. He learns about Imagination. He knows that tomorrow, his bathtub will be an ocean again. He realized that Even a Small Tub can be a Big Sea.

Leo’s submarine adventure is finished. He tells his mom, "I saw an octopus today!" He realized that Everyday Tasks can be Adventures. If you had a submarine, would you look for sunken gold or play with the rubber ducks?
