Story Details

Hello! This is Leo. Today, he is waiting for a very special bus. It is painted with black and white piano keys and has a horn that sounds like a trumpet. Toot-toot! This is the Music City Bus, and every seat is a giant drum!

First, Leo hops onto the bus. He learns about Rhythm. Every time the bus hits a small bump, the seats go Boom-chaka-boom! Leo taps his feet to the beat. The bus driver is a Cat playing a tiny violin with its tail.

Next, the bus drives past Guitar Hill. Leo learns about Strings. The trees have strings instead of branches. When the wind blows, the trees play a soft, beautiful melody. Twang-zhum-hum. It sounds like a giant lullaby.

Now, the bus stops at Trumpet Tunnel. Leo learns about Volume. Inside the tunnel, the echoes are very loud! The bus honks its horn, and the sound goes Toot-toot-toot! all the way to the end. Leo covers his ears and giggles.

Suddenly, Leo sees the Cymbal Sun. He learns about Brightness. The sun looks like a giant, shiny gold cymbal. When it shines bright, it makes a "Clash!" sound that wakes up all the flowers in the fields.

Next, the bus arrives at Piano Plaza. Leo learns about Notes. The sidewalk is made of black and white tiles. When Leo steps on them, they play music! Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So! Leo dances across the street to make a song.

Now, Leo meets the Flute Fairy. Leo learns about Pitch. The fairy is small and plays a very high, sweet note. She gives Leo a magic whistle. When he blows it, a flock of blue birds comes to sing with him.

Suddenly, it starts to rain Bells. Leo learns about Tinkling. Tiny silver bells fall from the sky and go Tinkle-tinkle-ting! as they hit the ground. Leo catches a bell and hears a tiny song inside it.

Next, Leo sees a Robot Band. Leo learns about Teamwork. One robot plays the drums, one plays the saxophone, and one sings. They all play together to make a happy song. Leo claps his hands in time with the music.

Now, the bus driver says, "Last stop: Harmony House!" Leo learns about Peace. This is a place where all sounds are soft and gentle. Leo sits on a grass made of velvet and listens to the whispering wind.

The sun begins to set, and the music becomes slow and quiet. Leo learns about Rest. The bus turns around to take Leo back home. The piano keys on the bus glow softly in the dark as they drive.

Finally, Leo is back in his room. He learns about Silence. He realizes that after a day of loud music, the quiet is very nice too. He puts his magic whistle under his pillow and closes his eyes.

Leo’s musical adventure is finished. He tells his dad, "I made a song today!" He realized that The Whole World is a Musical Instrument. If you went to Music City, would you want to play the giant drum seats or dance on the piano sidewalk?
