First, Leo puts a small box on a big box. He learns about Building. He uses silver tape to make arms and legs. Boxy looks very strong! Suddenly, Boxy’s eyes start to glow green. "Hello, Leo!" says Boxy.
Next, Boxy wants to walk. He learns about Movement. Boxy’s legs go Crinkle-crunch, crinkle-crunch! He moves a bit slowly because he is made of paper, but he is very steady. Leo walks slowly with him.
Now, Leo draws a big Red Button on Boxy’s tummy. He learns about Functions. When Leo presses the button, Boxy starts to play happy music. Beep-beep-boop! They both start to do a robot dance in the room.
Suddenly, Leo sees some trash on the floor. He learns about Cleaning. Boxy has a secret door in his chest. He helps Leo pick up the scraps of paper and put them inside his "Tidy Bin." Boxy loves to be clean!
Next, Boxy shows Leo his Robot Vision. He learns about Imagination. Boxy looks at an old toilet paper roll and sees a "Telescope." They look through it and pretend to see stars and planets on the ceiling.
Now, they find a Broken Toy Car. Leo learns about Repairing. Boxy uses a small piece of tape from his arm to fix the car's wheel. "Thank you, Boxy!" says Leo. Boxy wiggles his cardboard ears happily.
Suddenly, it starts to rain outside. Leo learns about Materials. He knows that cardboard doesn't like water. He and Boxy stay inside where it is dry and safe. They build a fort made of even more boxes!
Next, Boxy feels a bit "low on power." Leo learns about Energy. Boxy doesn't need batteries; he needs "Creative Ideas!" Leo tells Boxy a story about a space cat, and Boxy’s eyes glow brighter again.
Now, Boxy helps Leo with his Homework. Leo learns about Learning. Boxy is very good at shapes. He points to a square, a circle, and a triangle. Leo realizes that math can be a fun game with a robot friend.
The sun begins to set. Leo learns about Recycling. Boxy tells Leo that he used to be a juice box and a shoe box. Leo realizes that old things can become amazing new things if we use our brains.
Finally, it is time for Leo to sleep. He learns about Rest. Boxy sits quietly in the corner of the room. He doesn't move, but his green eyes stay on like a little nightlight to keep Leo safe.
Leo’s robot adventure is finished for today. He tells his dad, "I made a best friend out of boxes!" He realized that Creativity is the best magic. If you could build a robot, would he be made of boxes or old tin cans?
