Story Details

Hello! This is Ducky. He is a small yellow rubber duck. Today, he accidentally falls into a big, zipper bag. It is a Magic Pencil Case! Inside, the floor is made of soft fabric, and the air smells like cedar wood and rainbow dust.

First, Ducky meets Mister Graphite. He learns about Lines. Mister Graphite is a tall, thin pencil. Everywhere he walks, he leaves a grey trail. Ducky follows the trail and realizes it’s a map to the other side of the case!

Next, Ducky finds the Crayon Forest. He learns about Colors. The crayons stand like colorful pillars. He sees a blue crayon and a yellow crayon leaning against each other. "Look!" says Ducky. "Where they touch, the ground turns green!"

Now, Ducky reaches the Eraser Mountain. He learns about Cleaning. The mountain is pink and squishy. If Ducky makes a mistake with his graphite map, he just rubs his tummy on the mountain and the mistake disappears! Rub-rub-rub!

Suddenly, Ducky sees a Giant Sharpener. He learns about Sharpness. The sharpener is like a small factory. When a pencil goes in, wooden "snow" falls out. Ducky uses the wooden curls to make a cozy nest.

Next, Ducky finds a Yellow Ruler. He learns about Length. The ruler is a long, flat bridge with numbers on it. Ducky counts as he walks: "One, two, three... ten!" He realizes he is exactly "three inches" long!

Now, Ducky meets Miss Fountain Pen. He learns about Ink. She writes in beautiful, wet blue ink. Ducky has to be careful not to step in the puddles before they dry, or he will have blue ducky-prints everywhere!

Suddenly, a Silver Paperclip hops by. Ducky learns about Strength. The paperclip is small but very strong. It can hold many pages together. Ducky uses the paperclip as a hook to climb over a tall box of staples.

Next, Ducky finds a Glitter Glue Tube. He learns about Sparkle. When the tube wiggles, shiny gold stars come out. Ducky’s yellow feathers start to shine and glow. He feels like a disco duck!

Now, Ducky sees the Sticky Note Field. He learns about Notes. These are small square papers that can stick to anything. Ducky writes "Ducky was here" on a yellow square and sticks it to the wall of the case.

The zipper starts to open at the top. Ducky learns about Light. A big ray of sunshine comes into the case. It is time for the student to start drawing! Ducky knows his adventure is coming to an end.

Finally, a hand reaches in and picks up Ducky. He learns about Home. He is back on the desk, sitting next to his favorite lamp. He looks at the pencil case and winks at Mister Graphite.

Ducky’s pencil case adventure is finished. He tells the other toys, "I saw a forest of colors today!" He realized that Creativity is hidden in every bag. If you had a magic pencil, would you draw a big airplane or a beautiful garden?
