Story Details

Hello! This is Little Bear. Today, the wind is blowing softly, and the trees are turning red and gold. Little Bear finds a giant maple leaf on the ground. Suddenly, the leaf wiggles. It is a Magic Flying Leaf!

First, Little Bear sits on the leaf. He learns about Colors. The leaf is bright orange with yellow veins. When Little Bear touches it, the leaf feels like a soft velvet rug. Whoosh! The wind lifts them up into the air.

Next, they fly over the Pumpkin Patch. Little Bear learns about Shapes. He sees many round, orange pumpkins. From high up, they look like tiny orange buttons on a green blanket of vines.

Now, Little Bear reaches the Squirrel’s Attic. He learns about Harvest. He sees a squirrel busy hiding acorns in a hollow tree. Little Bear drops a small nut from his pocket to help. "Thank you!" chirps the squirrel.

Suddenly, the leaf flies through a Cloud of Mist. Little Bear learns about Temperature. The air feels cold and wet on his nose. He snuggles deep into his warm fur. He realizes that winter is coming soon.

Next, they meet a Golden Butterfly. Little Bear learns about Flight. The butterfly flaps its wings slowly. Little Bear’s leaf glides and turns just like a bird. He feels like he is swimming in a sea of blue sky.

Now, the leaf lands on a Quiet Lake. Little Bear learns about Boats. The leaf doesn't sink; it floats on the water! Little Bear uses his paws to row the leaf like a small canoe. Splish-splash!

Suddenly, it starts to rain Apple Seeds. Little Bear learns about Growth. Tiny brown seeds fall from the trees. Little Bear knows that each seed wants to grow into a big apple tree for next year.

Next, the leaf carries him to a Pile of Leaves. Little Bear learns about Crunch. He sees other children jumping into leaves. Crackle, pop! The sound is very funny, and it makes Little Bear want to jump too.

Now, the sun begins to set. Little Bear learns about Gold. The whole forest turns into a world of gold light. Everything looks warm and beautiful. Little Bear feels very sleepy after his long flight.

The leaf gently floats back to Little Bear’s Home. He learns about Safety. The leaf lands softly right in front of his cozy cave. Little Bear steps off and gives the leaf a little pat of thanks.

Finally, Little Bear goes inside to see his mama. He learns about Warmth. He has a bowl of warm honey and curls up in his bed. He keeps a small piece of the orange leaf under his pillow.

Little Bear’s autumn adventure is finished. He tells his mama, "I touched the sky on an orange rug!"

He realized that Nature is a giant playground. If you could fly on a leaf, would you go to the pumpkin patch or the apple forest?
