Story Details

Hello! This is Mai. Today, the sun is bright and the sky is blue. Mai looks at her dad’s car. It is covered in dust and mud from the rain.

"Let's make it shine, Dad!" says Mai. She puts on her waterproof sandals. It is time for a Water Adventure!

First, Mai helps Dad pull out the Hose. She learns about Length. The hose is very long and looks like a green snake. Mai helps Dad straighten it out on the driveway.

"Be careful not to trip!" says Dad with a smile. Next, Mai turns on the Tap.

She learns about Flow. Swoosh! The water comes out of the hose. Mai loves the sound of the water. She helps Dad spray the car. The dust starts to run away in little brown rivers.

Now, Mai prepares the Soapy Water. She learns about Bubbles. She puts some car soap into a big red bucket. Swish, swish! Soon, the bucket is full of white, fluffy bubbles.

"It looks like a cloud in a bucket!" giggles Mai. Suddenly, Mai gets a Sponge.

She learns about Absorbency. She dips the sponge into the soapy water. It becomes heavy and wet. Mai starts to scrub the car doors. Rub-a-dub-dub! The car is now covered in white "snow."

Next, Mai cleans the Wheels. She learns about Details. The wheels are the dirtiest part! Mai uses a small brush to get into the tiny corners. She is very focused. She wants every part of the car to be perfect.

Now, it is time to Rinse. She learns about Clarity. Dad uses the hose to wash away all the bubbles. The blue paint of the car starts to show. It looks much brighter now.

"Look, Dad! I can see my face in the door!" cries Mai. Suddenly, Mai gets a little Splash on her face.

She learns about Refreshment. The cool water feels funny on her nose. She laughs and wipes her face with her arm. Washing the car is the best way to stay cool on a sunny morning.

Next, Mai finds a Soft Cloth. She learns about Drying. "We don't want water spots," says Dad. Mai and Dad wipe the car until it is dry. The cloth is very soft, like her teddy bear’s fur.

Now, Mai looks at the Windows. She learns about Sparkle. She uses a special spray to make the glass clear. Now she can see inside the car perfectly. The car looks brand new, just like when they first bought it.

The car wash is Finished. She learns about Teamwork. Mai and Dad put the bucket, the sponge, and the hose back in the garage.

"High-five, Mai! You are a great partner," says Dad. Mai feels very proud of her hard work.

Then, Mai looks at her Wet Feet. She learns about Fun. Her sandals are dripping, and her toes are wrinkly. But she doesn't mind. She had a wonderful morning helping her favorite person in the world.

Finally, Mai and Dad go Inside. She learns about Reward. Mom has two glasses of cold lemonade waiting for them. "The car looks beautiful, Mai!" say Mom.

Mai sips her drink and thinks about her next big adventure.

Mai’s car wash adventure is finished. She tells her mom, "I turned a muddy car into a blue diamond today!" She realized that Big jobs are easy and fun when you do them together.

If you were helping Mai, would you use the soapy sponge or the water hose?
