Hello! This is Mai. Today, the moon is getting big and round in the sky. It is almost the Mid-Autumn Festival! Mai is sitting at the kitchen table with her Grandma. "Let's make some mooncakes, Mai!" says Grandma. Mai puts on her apron. She is ready to make some Sweet Magic.

First, Mai prepares the Dough. She learns about Texture. The dough is golden and feels like soft play-dough. Mai uses her hands to knead it until it is smooth. "This will be the skin of our mooncake," explains Grandma.

Next, Mai prepares the Filling. She learns about Sweetness. Grandma has a bowl of sweet mung bean paste. It is yellow and smells like flowers. Mai rolls the paste into small, perfect balls. They look like tiny yellow marbles.

Now, Mai learns about the Salted Egg Yolk. She learns about Contrast. She puts a round, orange egg yolk inside the sweet bean paste. "The yolk is like the full moon hiding inside a cloud," says Grandma. Mai thinks it looks beautiful.

Suddenly, it is time to Wrap. She learns about Covering. Mai flattens a piece of dough and puts the filling ball in the middle. She gently pulls the dough up to hide the filling. Hide and seek! Now the mooncake is a smooth, golden ball.

Next, Mai chooses a Wooden Mold. She learns about Patterns. The mold has a beautiful flower carved inside. Mai puts her dough ball into the mold and presses down hard with her palms. Push, push, push!

Now, Mai Taps the Mold. She learns about Release. Tap, tap, tap! The mooncake falls out onto the tray. "Wow!" shouts Mai. The plain ball now has a beautiful flower pattern on top. It looks like a piece of art!

Suddenly, Mai paints the Egg Wash. She learns about Shine. She uses a small brush to put a little bit of egg on top of each cake. This will make the cakes look shiny and golden after they stay in the oven.

Next, Grandma puts the tray in the Oven. She learns about Transformation. Mai watches through the glass. The kitchen starts to smell very yummy. The mooncakes turn from pale yellow to a rich, golden brown.

Now, the cakes are Finished. She learns about Cooling. Mai wants to eat one right away, but Grandma says, "Wait, Mai! Mooncakes taste better after they rest for a day." Mai practices her patience and waits for the cakes to get soft.

The Festival Arrives. She learns about Tradition. At night, the full moon is bright. Mai puts her mooncakes on a beautiful plate. She also has a colorful star lantern. The garden is full of light and laughter.

Then, Mai shares a cake with Grandpa. She learns about Sharing. Grandpa cuts the mooncake into small pieces. Everyone takes a bite. "This is the best mooncake because Mai made it with love," says Grandpa.

Finally, Mai looks at the Moon. She learns about Family. She realizes that making mooncakes is not just about food; it is about spending time with the people she loves. "Happy Moon Festival!" whispers Mai to the sky.

Mai’s mooncake adventure is finished. She tells her teddy bear, "I made a moon in the kitchen today!" She realized that Handmade gifts are the sweetest of all. If you were making a mooncake, would you choose a flower pattern or a little rabbit pattern?
