Story Details

Once upon a time, a little mermaid lived in the sea. She lived with her father and sisters.

The little mermaid loved to swim. She liked to look at the world above the water.

“I want to see the world above,” she said. “I want to see people.”

One day she swam to the top of the sea. She saw a big ship on the water.

A prince stood on the ship. The little mermaid saw him and smiled.

Suddenly a big storm came. The waves were big. The ship broke.

The prince fell into the water. The little mermaid swam fast. She saved him.

She took the prince to the shore. The prince woke up. She swam away.

“I want to be with the prince,” she said. So she went to see a sea witch.

“I can help you,” said the witch. “You can be a girl. But you must give me your voice.”

The little mermaid said, “I will do it.” She became a girl. But she could not speak.

She went to the prince. He was kind to her.

She could not tell him the truth. Then the magic broke. Her voice came back.

“I saved you in the storm,” she said. The prince knew the truth. They were happy together.
