Barnaby the teacup was not like other teacups. Oh no! He hated tea. He loved sprinkles! Tiny, colorful, crunchy sprinkles were his dream.
But then, a giant, wobbly jelly monster appeared. It jiggled. It pulsed. It wanted to fill Barnaby. “No!” squeaked Barnaby.
He spun away, his little handle twitching with fright. The jelly monster oozed closer. Plip-plop, plip-plop. Its sticky, sweet smell filled the air. Barnaby zoomed under the big, comfy rug. He held his breath.
He heard the squish-squash of the monster’s wobbly foot. The rug lifted just a tiny bit. Barnaby saw a shimmering red edge. He zipped out just in time, his heart doing a flip-flop.
Next, Barnaby darted behind the tall, wooden leg of the kitchen table. He was a very good hider. He was a cup-a-tea-hee!
The jelly monster stretched. It stretched so much, it almost touched him! Barnaby slid along the floorboards, feeling a tiny bit of jelly goo brush his side. Ick! He shivered and sped up.
Then, Barnaby saw the open cupboard. A perfect hiding spot! He zipped inside, past the dusty mugs and sleepy plates. He felt safe for a second.
But the jelly monster was clever. It began to jiggle the whole cupboard! Clatter-clank! Dishes wobbled. Barnaby felt a big push. He tumbled out, landing with a soft thud on the cozy, soft dish towel.
The jelly monster was close, so close! It was now a sticky, shimmering mountain. Barnaby saw a colorful box on the counter. Sprinkles! He knew what he had to do.
With a deep, brave breath, Barnaby zipped towards the monster. He zoomed right past its wobbly front. He zoomed past its wobbly side. He bumped the sprinkle box! It tipped.
A glorious, rainbow rain of sprinkles fell. They landed right on the monster! The monster shivered. It paused. It looked at the sprinkles. It stopped jiggling.
And Barnaby, the teacup who loved sprinkles, felt very, very brave.
