Once upon a time, a little red hen lived on a small farm. She lived with a lazy goose, a lazy duck, a lazy cat, and a lazy pig.

One day the little red hen found some wheat seeds.

“Who will help me plant these seeds?” asked the little red hen.

“Not I,” said the cat. “Not I,” said the pig.

“Then I will do it myself,” said the little red hen. And she planted the seeds.

Soon the wheat grew tall in the field. The little red hen looked at the golden wheat. “Who will help me cut the wheat?” asked the little red hen.

“Not I,” said the goose. “Not I,” said the duck.

“Then I will do it myself,” said the little red hen. And she cut the wheat.

The little red hen carried the wheat to the mill. Soon she had a bag of flour.

“Who will help me bake the bread?” asked the little red hen.

“Not I,” said the goose “Not I,” said the duck.

“Then I will do it myself,” said the little red hen. And she baked a loaf of bread.

Soon the bread was ready. “Who will help me eat the bread?” asked the little red hen.

“I will!” said the goose. “I will!” said the duck. “I will!” said the cat. “I will!” said the pig.

“No,” said the little red hen. “You did not help me at all. I will eat it myself!”
